Role

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to join our Engineering team on a hybrid basis in Bangalore. In this role, you will build and support the Jira Data Center platform that our engineering, IT, and business organizations run on—writing custom apps and integrations, keeping the platform healthy at scale, and helping drive our migration to Atlassian Cloud.

This position is ideal for someone early in their career who wants to own real systems: you will start with well-scoped engineering tasks and rapidly grow into designing solutions end-to-end for the teams you support.

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)

Develop & Maintain Core Extensions: Build, test, and maintain custom Jira Data Center apps, plugins, and scripted extensions using Java, Groovy, and the Atlassian SDK

Integrate Ecosystem Tools: Build and maintain seamless integrations between Jira and surrounding systems including Confluence, ServiceNow, Slack, CI/CD pipelines, and SSO using REST APIs and webhooks

Partner with Stakeholders: Collaborate directly with business and engineering partners to translate raw requirements into robust Jira solutions, including custom workflows, schemes, permissions, automation rules, and reporting

Drive Platform Migration: Contribute to our Jira Data Center to Cloud migration through app compatibility assessments, data mapping, migration tooling, dry runs, and post-migration validation

Maintain Platform Operations: Support ongoing operations alongside the team, including platform upgrades, patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting production issues across our AWS infrastructure

Who You Are (Success Profile)

You Think at Scale: You connect your day-to-day work to the larger company mission and think globally. You build solutions, processes, and architectures that are not just effective today, but are built to last and support a high-growth organization

You are Driven by Innovation: You possess a deep curiosity for how things work and are energized by solving complex technical hurdles. You believe in the power of technology to accelerate transformation and consistently hunt for more secure, scalable methods

You are a Problem-Solver: You actively seek out engineering challenges because you are energized by finding solutions, knowing that solving the hardest problems delivers the biggest business and customer impact

You are Data-Driven: You lean on data and analytics to uncover engineering truths, measure what matters, and guide informed architectural decisions—replacing "I think" with "I know."

You are a Learner: You have a true growth mindset and never stop developing your technical or leadership skills. You actively seek and implement feedback to become an exceptional collaborator and teammate

What We're Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)

AI & Workflow Curiosity: Demonstrated curiosity and active exploration of AI tools, with a proven history of integrating new technologies to enhance daily workflows and problem-solving

Experience Level: 1 to 3 years of software development experience (or equivalent through internships, co-ops, or substantial project work)

Core Technical Skills: Working proficiency in Java (or a comparable object-oriented language), solid SQL skills, and comfort with a scripting language such as Groovy, Python, or Bash

API & Tooling Familiarity: Experience consuming and building REST APIs, along with familiarity with Git-based version control and standard build tooling

Workflow Platform Exposure: Hands-on exposure to Jira, Confluence, or a comparable enterprise workflow platform as a developer, administrator, or power user

Ambiguity to Execution: Ability to break down ambiguous stakeholder requests into concrete engineering tasks and ask targeted questions when requirements are thin

What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

Hands-on experience developing Atlassian apps using the Atlassian SDK, ScriptRunner, or Forge/Connect

Exposure to platform migrations or major version upgrades (especially Data Center to Cloud), alongside familiarity with AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM), Infrastructure-as-Code, or CI/CD tooling

Practical understanding of application performance tuning, database indexing, and troubleshooting under enterprise load
